Stave 2
A character who changes through the course of a novel is called "dynamic." Scrooge is one such character. Examine the young Scrooge we meet in Stave 2 and describe how his personality is different from that of the Scrooge from Stave 1. Why do you think he changed so much between his youth and old age? Give textual evidence to support your answer, including page numbers.

Stave 1
Three of the main characters in Stave One are Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Fred. Each can be thought of as representing the attitude of a large group of people. Choose one and discuss the attitude/group he symbolizes. Use a quote from the text and include the page number in parentheses.

Welcome to our Classroom Blog!
This 6 weeks we will be reading A Christmas Carol. At the end of Staves One, Two, and Three, we will have a question in response to literature. You are expected to answer the question posted within 2 days of finishing reading the chapter in class. In your response, please do the following:
1) Give your answer supported by and connected to what you have read.
2) Cite textual evidence. Include words from the text and the page number in parentheses.
3) Use complete sentences. No abbreviations or text lingo!
You will also be required to reply to a peer. In your peer reply please:
1)Agree or disagree with their idea/evidence.
2)Provide constructive feedback in relation to their answer.
3)Include the name of the peer that you are replying to.
Example:
Describe Scrooge's change of heart during the story. Give text evidence.
Scrooge is a character who changes drastically over the course of the story. Dickens' description of him at the beginning as "hard as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire(2)" is a huge contrast to his generous character displayed at the end of the novel when he makes a large donation to the man who had visited him previously. "Lord bless me!...My dear Scrooge, are you serious?(83)" The gentleman is shocked by Scrooge's change of heart and sudden generosity. C.Nyvall
Peer Response : Mrs. Nyvall, I agree that Scrooge really changes over the course of the book. However, I think that a more appropropriate text evidence is found on p 81 where Scrooge buys the Cratchits a turkey. "Go and buy it...I'll send it to Bob Cratchit's!" This shows he is wanting to help the Cratchits, which is very different from his attitude from the day before when he complained about giving Mr. Cratchit the day off work. M.Willoughby
